The Great Instauration

Brethren and Friends,
There is much work to do in the world. We must rededicate ourselves to the Great Work, the Great Instauration, The Six Days Work. The City of the Sun awaits.

Set aside your pain and differences, there are things far greater than any of us.

Under the shadow of thy wings,

Frat.·.

How about that very LHP quote from Brother Pike :)

I love Pike, he never stopped striving to "come into being."

Here is the olive Branch my Brother with the most humility I can muster in hope that you take it.

We can only succeed if we will it so.

Why should I consider petitioning Euclid?

John Galt said...

I don't know if you should consider it. That is a personal decision. So that I don't seem to be brushing your question off (I am not) I will tell you why I am a member of Lodge Euclid #3. Maybe that will answer your question.

The education in Euclid challenges me. The Masonic experience that I have found here has been very rewarding to me intellectually and spiritually. Though Euclid is a small lodge I have found a close knit group of Brothers with strong connections to several other close knit groups of Brothers. I am very pleased with the quality of the fraternal experience of Euclid Lodge and the Grand Orient of the United States.

Lodge Euclid has raised the bar for my studies of our Gentle Craft and has opened doors of experience and learning to me that I am quite please with.

It is hard to put this into words but it is a real experience that I have and that I will continue to have as a Euclid man.

As to why anyone should petition Euclid, that would depend upon what you are seeking.

Sincerely,
Brandt

Thank you for your response.

After reading more of the blogs and responses on this site I do have a question regarding Euclid and the Grand Lodge. Please know that I am not trying to create an argument or problem between anyone here.

Do you feel that the main reason you are considered a clandestine lodge by the Grand lodge is a political move more than anything else. It seems to me, from what I am able to asses, that if the Grand Lodge were to recognize Euclid that it may be looked as effectively saying that you were right in what you did (again from their perspective)?

What are your thoughts in this manner?

By "Grand Lodge" I assume that you are referring to the Grand Lodge of Michigan. I think very fondly of several Brethren in the Grand Lodge of Michigan and I know that to be a fact as I have a very close relationship with many of those Brothers.

I don't think that it is a political move. It is a matter of how the different systems of Masonry view the subject. "Clandestine" simply means that a lodge operates under a charter from an organization not recognized by the viewing grand lodge. In other words it is an entirely internal matter and has no real impact outside of the grand lodge in question.

The Grand Lodge of Michigan cannot recognize Lodge Euclid #3 without recognizing the Grand Orient of the United States. This can't happen due to the wording of the by-laws and constitution of the Grand Lodge of Michigan.

This is just a matter of rules and regulations. It has nothing to do with who we are or who they are. Unfortunately passions are running high. I say "unfortunately" because a dear friend of mine is going to be installed as master of his lodge and it would cause problems if I showed up for the public installation. This is upsetting but it is just the way things are. I will congratulate him and celebrate in another venue without the negative emotions that would surround the issue if I were there for the "official" public installation. Such is life.

Contrary to popular belief there is no strife between the Grand Lodge of Michigan and Euclid Lodge. Of course no member of the Grand Lodge of Michigan is permitted by the Grand Lodge to actually sit in Euclid Lodge. That, again, is just a matter of the rules on the table. No member of Euclid would attempt to sit in a lodge chartered by the Grand Lodge of Michigan out of respect for that organization.

There may be some hard feelings in some quarters but for the most part the Grand Lodge of Michigan ignores Euclid Lodge and the Grand Orient of the United States. They have nothing to fear from us nor do we have anything to fear from them. If we were to see each other in a restaurant or at a bar we would be friendly and fraternal and leave it at that.

A tiled meeting in which the bills are discussed is not something that I miss terribly. Some of Euclid's business may be seen as tedious as well (it is tedious but it must be done - we just keep that part short). The Masonic experience is far bigger than a regular communication about bills and other sundry items.

I don't spend a lot of time on the issue. My fraternal relationships with Brothers from several grand lodges, including the Grand Lodge of Michigan, are sound and secure. The issue of politics does not enter our chain of union.

The Ultimate of Masonry should be to develop both the negative and the positive aspects; and then to establish a balance by bringing about an equilibrium. The Ineffable Light cannot be brought into full manifestation until this equilibrium is established.

Compassion is a far greater and nobler thing than pity. Pity has its
roots in fear and carries a sense of arrogance and condescension,
sometimes even a smug feeling of "I'm glad it's not me." As Stephen
Levine says: "When your fear touches someone's pain it becomes pity;
when your love touches someone's pain, it becomes compassion." To
train in compassion is to know that all beings are the same and suffer
in similar ways, to honor all those who suffer, and to know that you
are neither separate from nor superior to anyone.
